The dark of a Sunday morning, so quiet and deep,
Cozy and warm, I shut my eyes to drift back to sleep.
‘Hey Mama’ my little one whispered with his eyes half awake,
I turned around and hugged him but he gave his head a shake.
I gently cradled him holding him close to my chest,
Hoping he would settle in and take some rest.
But he wriggled and muttered, his eyes full of glee,
‘I want to play ‘beep beep’’ was indeed his heart’s plea.
Well, beep beep is a game we both discovered,
Where wishes will be made and the universe will deliver.
A van will honk its horn as our desires are granted,
And we crisscross our hands to thank the lord for giving what we wanted.
‘So, my love, What do you want as a gift today?’
My baby blushed bright and began to say,
“A sky with my coloring kit, so big and shiny”
”I want it now, Mama – beep, beep” it started to get a little whiny
I reached for his drawer and found his art supplies,
“Here’s your sky with coloring kit,” I handed over my drawing with a hopeful sigh.
“No, Mama! I want the real sky, you see,
The one with all the big, beautiful colors, just for me!”
He stamped his feet, his wish so bold,
And I thought it was another tantrum just yet to unfold.
I tried to distract him, but it didn’t work,
He was bound to his dream, no matter how much I shirked.
Hours went by, the morning grew light,
The darkness behind the curtains took flight.
I got up from the bed to open the shade,
But my little one’s yearning did not just fade.
Startled, I screamed, “Look, sweetie, the universe has your wish granted,
A big, beautiful rainbow just as you wanted.
Exhilarated at the sight he yelled “Mama, dreams do come true, you were right!”
‘Yes, my love, you will get all your rainbows, just hang in there tight’
